Catherine Rutten has been appointed as Member of the Council of the BIPT, the national regulator for telecom and postal matters in 2003 for a term of six years. She received her law degree from the University of Leuven (Belgium) and holds LL.M.’s from the College of Europe (Bruges) and from the London School of Economics. She began her career in as a lawyer at the Brussels Bar, advising clients on media, telecommunications, IP/IT and commercial law at Loeff Claeys Verbeke. In 1997 she joined BT where she was in charge of regulatory affairs in Belgium and Luxembourg. She heads three divisions within BIPT: economic regulation of the telecommunications market, international relations and finance.

Catherine Rutten a été nommée membre du Conseil de l’IBPT, le régulateur national des télécommunications et des services postaux, en 2003, pour une période de 6 ans. Elle est titulaire d’un diplôme en droit de la Leuvense Universiteit (KUL), ainsi que d’un LL.M. du Collège d’Europe à Brugge et d’un autre de la London School of Economics. Elle a commencé sa carrière comme avocate au barreau de Bruxelles, dans des matières relatives au droit des medias, des télécommunications et des nouvelles technologies ainsi qu’en droit commercial auprès du cabinet Loeff Claeys Verbeke. En 1997 elle a rejoint BT où elle avait était chargée de la régulation en Belgique et au Luxembourg. Elle dirige trois divisions au sein de l’IBPT: la division en charge de la régulation économique du marché des télécommunications, la division relations internationales et la division finance.

Catherine Rutten werd aangesteld in 2003 voor een termijn van zes jaar als lid van de raad van de BIPT, de Belgische regulator voor de postdiensten en de telecommunicatie. Ze behaalde haar diploma rechten aan de Leuvense Universiteit (KUL) en bezit tevens een LL.M van het Europa-College in Brugge en van de London School of Economics. Ze begon haar carrière als advocaat aan de Brusselse Balie en was actief in media- en telecommunicatierecht alsook in IP/IT-recht en handelsrecht bij Loeff Claeys Verbeke. In 1997 trad ze toe tot BT waar ze zich bezighield met de regulering in België en Luxemburg. Ze staat aan het hoofd van drie afdelingen in het BIPT: economische regulering van de telecommunicatiemarkt, internationale betrekkingen en financiën.
